Brachioplasty
Arm Lift Surgeon in Princeton, NJ
Princeton Rejuvenation Institute provides expert brachioplasty (arm lift) in Princeton NJ, performed by top-rated board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Jamie R. Wisser MD FACS. Brachioplasty removes loose, hanging skin and excess fat from the upper arm — restoring a firmer, more toned arm contour that remains unresponsive to diet or exercise. For patients needing only fat reduction without significant skin removal, liposuction alone may suffice. Patients from East Windsor, Cranbury NJ, and across NY trust our practice. What Is Brachioplasty?
Brachioplasty (arm lift) removes loose, hanging skin from the underside of the upper arm — skin that often develops due to aging, significant weight loss, or weight fluctuation, and cannot be corrected through diet or exercise alone. By removing excess skin and fat and tightening the arm's supportive tissue, brachioplasty restores a firmer, slimmer, more proportionate arm contour that patients describe as transformative for their confidence and clothing options.
Who Is a Candidate for an Arm Lift?
The best candidates are individuals with excessive loose upper arm skin who have achieved and maintained a stable weight. Non-smokers in good overall health with no major conditions that impair healing are ideal candidates. Patients who have undergone significant weight loss — through bariatric surgery or lifestyle changes — are among the most commonly treated at Princeton Rejuvenation Institute. Patients needing only minor skin removal may be candidates for a minimal-incision brachioplasty leaving a shorter scar. View real patient results in our gallery.
What Does the Brachioplasty Procedure Involve?
An incision is made along the inside or back of the upper arm — often extending from the underarm (axilla) to or near the elbow, positioned to remain as hidden as possible. Excess fat is removed by direct excision or liposuction; excess skin is carefully trimmed; and the underlying supportive tissue is tightened with internal sutures for long-lasting results. The procedure is performed under general anesthesia or IV sedation and takes two to four hours. Most patients return home the same day.
Can Brachioplasty Be Combined with Other Procedures?
Yes — brachioplasty is frequently combined with other body contouring procedures as part of a comprehensive post-weight-loss transformation. Common combinations include abdominoplasty (tummy tuck), thigh lifting, and belt lipectomy. Dr. Wisser evaluates which procedures can be safely combined in a single operation versus staged across separate operations.
What Is Brachioplasty Recovery Like?
After brachioplasty, patients experience swelling, bruising, and mild to moderate discomfort that is manageable with prescribed pain medication. Drainage tubes may be placed for a few days to reduce fluid accumulation. Compression bandages support healing and shape the arms during recovery. Most patients return to light desk work within one to two weeks; exercise resumes at four to six weeks. Scars continue to fade and mature over twelve to eighteen months.
